The Day Before 9/11
Art October 23rd. 2007, 3:05amIn an attempt to rebrand the Cape Times newspaper in South Africa, the Lowe Bull Cape Town advertising agency created a series titled “The Day Before”. Meant to highlight the papers desire to reach a more intellictual audience, each image is designed to remind the viewer of how fast the world can change.
“With the advent of newer and faster technologies every day, newspapers are finding it harder to appeal to the market. The radio, television and especially the internet have become the information medium of choice for many consumers,” says Lowe Bull creative director Kirk Gainsford.
The ads are very effective and considering the subject matter they are dealing with, quite respectful too.

Interesting, but it is unlikely that John F. Kennedy was in the White House with his kids on November 21, 1963–he was in Houston, Texas. I was a student at the University of Houston, walked to the Gulf Freeway to watch his motorcade on that day.

Allan, JFK was actually in San Antonio on the 21st, speaking at the dedication of the Aerospace Medical Health Center. That’s when he said, “This nation has tossed its cap over the wall of space and we have no choice but to follow it.”
Regardless, I don’t really think that’s the point of the ad. I think they’re going for a metaphorical “the day before” rather than a literal one.

I have no idea what happened in 1976 or 1990 - what are the last two about?

Candy: The 1976 one is the day before the Soweto uprising, and the 1990 one is the day before Nelson Mandela was released from prison. I had to look those two up.

i agree it should be seen as metaphorical day before, the 1945 probably wouldnt exist unless film can withstand an atomic bomb of course
